Sustainable Yoga for Active Aging with Barbara

Join us to explore how our yoga practice may continue to provide a source of strength and equanimity, healing and joy, and foster overall well-being as we naturally age.

As we become older it is inevitable that our bodies change. We must learn to adapt our yoga practice to accommodate these changes and the conditions that may result from living our lives fully. These changes may include arthritis and joint replacements, osteopenia or osteoporosis, loss of strength and balance, and chronic back pain.

We will explore:

  • Yoga for Strength; how bone strength, muscle strength and endurance is affected by aging

  • Yoga for Flexibility; how age affects joints, muscles, fascia and connective tissues

  • Yoga for Balance and Agility so we may live with confidence and ease

  • How yoga can support cardiovascular health, our brains and nervous system

  • The importance of Restorative Yoga and Pranayama in managing stress and culitvating a healthy mind, body, and spirit

Meet Barbara:

She completed her 200-hour teacher training from Holy Cow in 2009 and attained the 500-hour Advanced Studies certification in 2014. In 2010 Barbara completed the 80-hour Therapeutic Yoga for Seniors program at Duke Integrative Medicine. In 2021 she completed another 300-hour certification in Sustainable OM Yoga with her long-time teacher, Cyndi Lee. Her teaching reflects the gifts she receives from her own practice; an awareness of strength, self-healing, balance and contentment. She encourages her students to come to yoga just as they are, and to explore how the experience on the mat will unfold into enriched and awake living off the mat.
