Brand new to our studio or yoga in general?

Your yoga practice is first and foremost YOUR practice. Make sure you experience a few different types of classes and teachers to help you determine what you enjoy most and what is best for you.

We generally suggest that most new brand new students start out with Gentle or Gentle Flow classes. We offer MANY of these! This will help you to learn the shape of the poses and the language of yoga, as well as giving you a chance to gauge your desire to move on to a more challenging class. Those that are pretty physically fit can certainly start with the Slow Flow or Yoga Hours, just know these move at a quicker pace. Please ask ahead of time if you would like more specific guidance.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothing that allow you to move easily.

We use a ‘PassCard’ system. PassCards can be purchased online or at the front desk. The cards remain in the studio at all times, and are filed in our card box under the first letter of your last name.

It is ok to take a break during the practice. Depending on the class series and what you are experiencing, you can always return to child’s pose for a rest or even for the remainder of the class! If you get overwhelmed or confused by the poses, don’t worry! It’s fine to take a break or watch for a moment until you get a feel for the rhythm of the practice. If you have a question, by all means ask, but please try to wait until after class.

Often at the start and/or close of class, the teacher will have students join in the sound of “om.” Simply put, “om” represents the sound of energy, so by joining together in the sound, we are symbolically joining our energies. The teacher may also say “namaste” to the class. Namaste is your teacher’s way of saying they honor the light in you. By saying it back, you are simply saying that you honor the light in them as well.
