(VIRTUAL & IN-STUDIO)

Join Jivana Heyman, the founder and director of the Accessible Yoga Association, for a deep dive into the heart of yoga in a way that is both accessible and welcoming to all.  We will offer two days to explore this burging field of practice where EveryBody can do Yoga within their body’s ability.

SATURDAY (11/4) : 11am - 4pm (with a break for lunch)

SUNDAY (11/5) : 8am - 1pm (with a mid-morning break) NEW SUNDAY HOURS. REMEMBER WE FALL BACK ONE HOUR!

In the Accessible Yoga Immersion, Jivana will lead a series of practice sessions and workshops designed for practitioners and teachers alike. He’ll explore the essential teachings of Yoga and how we can make them truly available to anyone who’s interested.

This includes a review of essential Yoga philosophy and subtle practices such as pranayama and meditation. He’ll also share techniques for making asana accessible for yourself or your students, including adapted mat practice, chair yoga, and bed yoga.

Jivana’s approach is both light-hearted and profound, and his approach is appropriate for all levels of practitioner, including brand new students and teachers with decades of experience.

SATURDAY- What is Accessible Yoga AND Approaching Asana

Broken into two parts, we will include an overview of yoga philosophy, reflecting on some primary sources such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Upanishads, as well as considering the way we are practicing yoga today. We’ll also reflect on the goal of living and practicing yoga in a way that is respectful to yoga’s tradition. This will be mostly lecture with a few short practices.

After lunch will focus on making asana accessible and include a full practice. The practice will include an exploration of adapted mat practice using props and walls, as well as chair yoga and bed yoga practice. We’ll look at various techniques such as changing the orientation of a pose, breaking it down into parts, and visualization. This session will include a short lecture and longer practice.

SUNDAY - Accessing Asana, Pranayama and Meditation

In the morning we explore Pranayama which is the missing link in our practice - connecting body and mind. Then a continuation of the exploration of asana with an additional focus on pranayama, the breathing practices. It will include a discussion of how we breathe and how pranayama works, as well as an asana practice with a focus on the breath. We’ll explore yogic breathing, ujjayi, alternate nostril breathing, and kapalabhati. This session will include a lecture and a longer practice.

After a morning break, we look at the many ways meditation is the penultimate yoga practice, and yet it often feels inaccessible to many yoga practitioners. This session will include a discussion of how to make meditation accessible, and the practice of various meditation techniques including yoga nidra and mantra repetition. This will include a short accessible asana practice preparing the body and mind for meditation.

Cancellations notice received more than 48 hours before the start of the course will result in a 25% cancellation fee. Or the option of a credit for future trainings or classes, without a cancelation fee.

However, if you cancel within 48 hours of the start time, you will not receive a refund or credit.
